A section of downtown Miami Oklahoma was closed Saturday evening as Miami police exchange gunfire with a man.
Authorities say the incident took place around 9:00 Saturday night. The man was seen walking past the Mia Bella Italian Kitchen multiple times, was seen sitting outside, and subsequently walked to the front door and fired the gun into the restaurant.
Officers arrived on scene, they tried to arrest the subject, and gunfire was exchanged. A pursuit on foot then ensued, and multiple shots were exchanged between law enforcement and the subject. The subject was shot three times, once in the arm, once in the hand, and once in the leg, and was medically transported by helicopter to a Tulsa, Oklahoma hospital.
Multiple agencies assisted in the case, including the Miami Police Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Quapaw Nation Marshals, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations is handling the investigation.
