NOAA Weather Radio Outage June 2-4th

If you rely solely on a NOAA weather radio for severe weather information, listen up.

The National Weather Service in Wichita is going through a scheduled update and will have to transfer control of its operations over to the backup office in Topeka next week. Because of this, NOAA weather radio stations in Kansas will be silent Monday, June 2nd through Wednesday, June 4th.

This includes Wichita, Beaumont, Sharon, Erie, Ellsworth and Great Bend stations. If you are in the Coffeyville area, your weather radio is probably tuned to Channel 2, which is the Bartlesville NOAA transmitter, and your reception will be unaffected. Depending on where you live, you may run into reception issues next week. While you may be able to tune to another NOAA weather station, The National Weather Service says this is a reminder to have multiple ways to receive warning information, some of which include local radio and TV and free text alerts like offered through KGGF.

The forecast office in Wichita, KS will remain open and staffed through the period for public and partner phone calls and additional functions. KGGF has multiple ways to receive and relay warning information, so there will be no impact should severe weather strike the area.
