Miami Woman Sentenced for Role in 2021 Murder

A Miami woman is sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in a 2021 murder.

54-year-old Charlana Nichelle Kelly entered a guilty plea in February to charges of accessory to felony murder for her role in the shooting death of Toni Elizabeth Moran, whose body was discovered near a pond in Ottawa County in November 2021. Kelly was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections with all but the first five years of the sentence suspended.

Court documents indicate that Kelly's husband, Jimmy Kelly Jr., had been in a romantic relationship with Moran that began when the two were both in prison. Jimmy Kelly then arranged for a meeting between the two women. During that meeting, an argument ensued that resulted in Moran being shot. Jimmy Kelly pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case in 2023. He has been sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for his role in the crime.
