Cherokee Nation, Washington County Open Double Creek Bridge

The Cherokee Nation and Washington County dedicate the opening of a new bridge just north of Ramona.

Representatives were on hand this week to officially open the Double Creek Bridge on Old Highway 75 and West 3300 Road over Double Creek. The $1.4 million investment by the Cherokee Nation replaced the old bridge that was originally built in the 1930s on a high-traffic road.

Washington County Commissioner Mike Dunlap says the relationship the county has with the Cherokee Nation is an example for others.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr. says the tribe is dedicated to helping communities across the Cherokee Reservation, especially in rural areas.

The Cherokee Nation has invested in several road and bridge projects across the reservation, including Washington County. The tribe funded the Matoaka Bridge, multiple miles of roads, and will fund the Sanders Creek project just north of Vera.
