Coffeyville Looks to Improve Fairgrounds, Upgrade Livestock Barns

Updates to the livestock barns at the Coffeyville Fairgrounds could be in the works.

A presentation will be given to the Coffeyville City Commission at tomorrow's meeting, which was moved to Thursday because of the Memorial Day holiday. Coffeyville City Manager Ben Brubaker believes the livestock barns are between 55 and 80 years old, and says there is an opportunity to replace them with something to continue and even expand livestock events.

Brubaker says it's important to maintain facilities that the city already has while updating those that need improvements in a continuing goal to bring more events and sales tax dollars into the area.

If approved, the city could go after a grant and also fund the project from its economic development and capital improvement funds. The project will be discussed during Thursday's meeting which starts at 6:30 p.m. in city hall.

The full interview with Brubaker on a variety of city issues including utility rates and city projects can be heard HERE.
