Authorities in McDonald County, Missouri, are investigating what is being called an attempted murder-suicide.

The incident began last Thursday when McDonald County deputies were called to a residence for reports of a domestic disturbance near Powell, just north of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. When one of the deputies knocked on the door of the home, he heard gunfire inside the residence. The deputy took cover and called for back-up. At that point, a wounded female resident of the home crawled to the door in search of aid. The woman was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken by helicopter to a nearby trauma center. When law enforcement entered the house, they found the woman’s husband deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The female victim is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
