As severe thunderstorms move through southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma, a flood watch is also in effect.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Montgomery County, including Coffeyville, Dearing and the Coffeyville Airport until 1:15 this afternoon. At 5:05 a.m., doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms, with flooding ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen and an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible. As of 7 a.m., 3.89 inches of rain was measured at the KGGF studios.
In addition, southeast Cherokee County and the Joplin area are included in a flash flood warning. A flood watch remains in effect through Memorial Day for much of southeast Kansas, northeast Oklahoma, southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas.
