Baxter Springs has a new Police Chief.
The City has appointed former school resource officer Rick Comer as the new Chief of Police. Comer takes over the position from Jimmy Hamilton. Hamilton stepped into the role on an interim basis in November after former Chief Brian Henderson was elected as Sheriff of Cherokee County. Hamilton was then officially named as Police Chief in January. With this latest move, Hamilton has returned to his former role as Assistant Chief of Police.
The changes are not finished, however, as the city is currently accepting applications for the Police Chief position. The City says Comer may be chosen for the job, but he will have to apply just like everyone else.
Applications for the position will be accepted for the next two weeks.
