The City of Fredonia is preparing to renovate a downtown building to become its new police station.
At Wednesday's city commission meeting, commissioners agreed to issue a request for proposals for the remodeling of the building located at 515 Madison Street. City Administrator Evan Bolt says a few tweaks were made to the original request in order to financially protect the city.
In other business, commissioners also approved a new ordinance that would prohibit public nudity. The measure was proposed following a recent incident in nearby Cowley County in which a man was seen taking strolls and doing yard work while wearing nothing but shoes. Bolt says something similar has happened recently in Fredonia.
The commission also approved $6,000 for the purchase of parts for the city swimming pool. Water Department Supervisor Justin Dodd told commissioners that the repairs could be made to allow the pool to open on time.
