Parsons City Commission Set to Approve Incentive Package for Movie Theater

The Parsons City Commission is set to approve an incentive package for a company to reopen a movie theater in the City.

At Monday's City Commission meeting, an incentive package was presented that is ready to be offered to a prospective company. The package would include three incentives. The first is a $150,000 forgivable loan that would be forgiven $15,000 a year over a ten year period. The second incentive would be a $125,000 grant for improvements made to the second cinema upgrades, while the third would be a $50,000 incentive based on a tax rebate also occurring over ten years. City Manager Jeff Cantrell spoke in favor of the package and says it would be a quality-of-life benefit for the community.

Commissioner Leland Crooks says, if Parsons wants a movie theater, this is what needs to happen.

Commissioners took no action on the issue at this week's meeting. City Attorney Ross Albertini says this is to give Parsons residents the chance to voice their opinions on the measure.

Parsons residents are urged to contact city commissioners with their thoughts and concerns about the incentive package before the June 2nd meeting.
