Sunday Storms Cause Grain Car Derailment in Western KS

Severe thunderstorms that occurred on Sunday in western Kansas cause the derailment of several grain cars.

According to Scott County Emergency Management Director Tim Stoecklein, the storm caused about 15 empty grain cars parked along tracks at the Modoc grain elevator to come off the tracks. The cars were likely waiting to be filled at the time so no grain was spilled.

Four tornadoes touched down in Scott County on Sunday, but damage was mostly limited to downed power lines and trees.
