Kansas Prisoner Review Board Reverses Decision to Release Convicted Cop Killer

The Kansas Prisoner Review Board reverses its decision to release a man convicted for the 1978 murder of a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper.

The K-R-B had recently granted the release of Jimmie Nelms, who was convicted of the murder of Trooper Conroy O'Brien during a traffic stop on the Kansas Turnpike in 1978. Public outcry over the decision, combined with outrage from state elected officials and disappointment expressed from the law enforcement community, led to the reversal of the decision.

The 78-year-old Nelms was sentenced to serve two life terms for first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in the case.
