Power Outages, Storm Damage Around Area

The severe thunderstorm that moved through the Coffeyville and Independence areas last night leaves downed trees and power outages in its wake.

The storm that rolled across the area around 5pm last night brought high winds with it. A 69 mph wind gust measured at the Coffeyville Municipal Airport is thought to have caused much of the damage. Coffeyville Municipal Power and Light responded to several power outages on the west side of the City. Damage was also reported in Independence. City Engineer John Garris says most of the damage there was localized to the southern parts of the City.

Evergy reported around 800 customers without power, mainly along CR 3900 south of Independence through Dearing, and 166 west from Coffeville through Tyro to near Caney.  Four Rivers Electric also reported just under 100 customers without power in Montgomery County and a few outages in Wilson County.
