A Copan native is recognized for her outstanding performance by the U.S. Navy.

U.S. Navy. Petty Officer Third Class Kylie Bates has been selected as Junior Sailor of the Quarter. The award  recognizes sailors who show superior performance, leadership and professionalism. Bates called the recognition a reminder to keep pushing herself and working hard.

Bates is a 2017 graduate of Copan High School and has served in the U.S. Navy for the past five years.
