Cherokee Nation and the City of Nowata Celebrate New Food Distribution Center

The Cherokee Nation and the City of Nowata are celebrating the grand opening of the expanded Nowata Food Distribution Center and Senior Nutrition Site.

The new upgrades and expansions to the facility were made possible by a $2.8 million investment by the Cherokee Nation. Native American Fellowship's Kris Crane says the upgrade has really improved the facility that hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week.

Other parts of the expansion include a 1,500 square foot warehouse, a 400 square foot, conference room, and a 1,500 square foot freezer/cooler.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr, along with other leaders from the Cherokee Nation were also on hand to celebrate the grand opening of the new facility. The Nowata Food Distribution Center serves more than 400 homes by providing nutritious food in a grocery store setting. The Senior Nutrition Site serves more than 700 seniors each month and more than 8,400 every year through in-person and home-delivered meals.
