Firefighters in Columbus will soon have a new, up-to-date training facility up and running.
The new facility is located behind the Columbus Fire Department on East Maple Street and contains a realistic training center designed to simulate an apartment with a bed, an entrance and windows. The set-up mimics the conditions and structures that firefighters most frequently encounter in the line of duty and will help prepare new firefighters for structure fires where victims might need rescue.
The new facility cost between $15,000 and $20,000 and was paid for by community fundraising efforts. Training is expected to begin at the new facility in the coming weeks.
