Joplin Man Arrested After Motorcycle Chase in Cherokee County

 

A Joplin man is in custody following a motorcycle chase into Kansas that ended in a crash.

 

The chase began in Joplin last Thursday when a motorcyclist fled after police attempted a stop for traffic violations. The chase continued across the state line into Kansas and Cherokee County. Joplin Police pursued the suspect with aerial help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. After crossing into Kansas, the suspect encountered a Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputy who continued the pursuit along Southeast Star Road, east of Baxter Springs. The suspect then failed to negotiate a curve and crashed the motorcycle. The suspect then fled on foot before being quickly apprehended by sheriff’s deputies.

 

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old James Colley. Colley is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail in Columbus and faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding, possession of stolen property, and possession of opiates and marijuana.
