Five of the six state universities in Kansas are asking for tuition hikes for the next fiscal year.
Emporia State is the only school not asking for an increase in tuition. Of the five other schools, Pittsburg State is asking for the lowest increase at 2.5%. Fort Hays State is asking for the biggest increase at 4%, followed by Kansas State and Wichita State at 3.5% and the University of Kansas at 3%. The requested increase would affect undergraduate students in the 2025-26 academic year.
The Board of Regents schools have all recently faced challenges including a decline in the population of college-age Kansans, a decrease in enrollment among international students, and demands for financial support of college athletics.
The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents has authority over tuition adjustments, but often adopt recommendations made by leaders at the various schools.
