The City of Coffeyville is still working out the details of a utility rate increase.
In recent meetings over the past few weeks, the Coffeyville City Commission has voted in favor of a rate increase in the coming year. However, the details of the increase have not yet been established. Currently, the City says the proposed increase could be around 7%. What remains unclear is exactly how the increase will happen. Some city commissioners want to raise the rates gradually over the next year. The most recent amendment to the increase would see a 2% increase in July and then another increase in January. A second reading of the proposal will occur at the May 27th Commission meeting, which will then be subject to a Commission vote.
Coffeyville City Manager Ben Brubaker says there's a lot that goes into this issue, but explains that electric rates in Coffeyville have not kept up with surrounding areas.
