A traffic stop near Chetopa leads to the arrest of a New York man on 38 felony charges.
A Labette County Sheriff's Deputy conducted the stop on Maple Street in Chetopa, where the suspect's vehicle was traveling at 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. During the stop, a K-9 officer was deployed to conduct an “open air” sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in the indication of the presence of narcotics in the car. A search of the vehicle revealed 17 fake Ids using the driver's photo, 10 fake US Treasury checks, and more than $8,000 in cash. The Labette County Sheriff's Office says it later discovered that the suspect had already cashed 5 treasury checks in Tulsa for a total of another $8,000.
The driver was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including counterfeiting, forgery, and identity theft.
