Students at Holy Name Catholic School react to the news of the 1st ever Pope from the United States.
Cardinal Robert Prevost is now Leo XIV (the 14th). The Chicago-born missionary spent much time ministering in Peru before being brought to the Vatican’s office of bishops.
Father James Schibi says he's happy students at Holy Name were able to see history made.
Father Schibi says Leo XIV has ties to the area as a teacher in the Tulsa area before ministering elsewhere. He says there is an excitement in the church with a leader whose goal is to live together in harmony, being of one mind and one heart on the way to God.
135 eligible cardinals participated in a secret voting process known as the conclave. The cardinals had no contact with the outside world, and their votes will not be revealed.
