The Independence City Commission will consider a change to the dates of fireworks sales in the city limits..
Jake's Fireworks has asked the City to extend the period for fireworks sales for the July 4th holiday. The current window for sales is June 27 through July 4. The request would extend the window to June 20 through July 7. The proposal would not extend the allowed dates for setting off fireworks, which is July 1 through the 4th in Independence.
Also on tonight's agenda is the approval of a Community Development Block Grant for improvements at Riverside Park. The improvements were originally discussed at the February 27th meeting and include new equipment, improved lighting, and two new picnic shelters and. $155,000 in city funds will be used to match grant funding. FORPAZ has pledged an additional $25,000 for the project.
Commissioners will also consider a request from FORAZ to paint two additional murals on the wall of Shulthis Stadium. One would depict the miniature and large train while the other would depict the carousel.
Tonight's meeting begins at 5:30 pm at City Hall and is open to the public. The meeting can also be viewed online via the City website.
