The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board will hear a clemency plea today from a man convicted in a 1999 Tulsa double murder.
George John Hanson is currently scheduled to have his death sentence carried out on June 12 for the 1999 murder of 77-year-old Mary Bowles, who was kidnapped from a Tulsa mall and taken to a remote area near Owasso where she was shot and killed. A man who witnessed the shooting, Jerald Thurman, was also shot and killed.
Hanson has spent more than two decades serving time in a federal prison in Louisiana for bank robbery before Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond requested his return to Oklahoma earlier this year to face execution.
If the Board denies Hanson's clemency plea, his execution will continue as planned.
