The U.S. Senate Appropriation Subcommittee on Agriculture holds hearings to review this years budget request from the agency.
Kansas Senator Jerry Moran had questions for USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins during the hearings. One item Moran asked the secretary about was recent staffing cuts that have left some USDA offices in Kansas short-staffed. Moran says those positions are one way Kansas can encourage young people to return to rural Kansas.
Rollins says, that is a priority for the Trump administration.
Moran also highlighted the importance of moving the Food for Peace program to the USDA and the research being done at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan.
