A proposed site for a new prison in northwest Arkansas hits a snag after new findings suggest it may be a burial site for the Chickamauga Nation.
Some of the evidence found near the border of the prison land includes rock formations and various writings was presented over the weekend. Chief of the Chickamauga Nation Justin Flanagan says he wants to make sure his ancestors’ history is preserved by checking the proposed building site for more features and archaeological evidence.
The planned $750 million correctional facility is planned for Franklin County, east of Fort Smith.
