Multiple departments respond to a house fire in Independence over the weekend.
According to the Independence Fire-EMS Department, firefighters were dispatched to 401 S 2nd Street on Saturday for a two-story structure fire with possible entrapment. When crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was observed from windows on the second story. They were also advised that all were out of the home. Firefighters began an interior attack to stop the fire from spreading and a second alarm was requested from Dearing Rural, Independence Rural, Cherryvale Rural and Cherryvale Fire-Rescue. There were no injuries or casualties to civilians or emergency personnel. This fire is currently under investigation by Independence Fire-EMS and Independence Police Department.
