The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Independence do their good turn by holding a food drive for the Community Access Center.
Cubs from Pack 3136 and Scouts from Troop 4 braved the rainy weekend weather to collect food outside of the Independence locations of Walmart and G & W Foods. Each group of boys had a friendly competition to see which group could collect the most food. The younger scouts won the day by taking in 315 pounds of food while Troop 4 collected 254 pounds. The food drive was part of Love Independence Day, and everything collected will go to the Community Access Center at 307 West Pecan. Anyone else who would like to donate either food or money to help local people in need can stop by the Center weekdays between 10am and 3pm.
