The Coffeyville City Commission tackles the difficult issue of raising electric rates.
At this week's meeting, commissioners debated when and by how much electric rates in the city would increase. City Manager Ben Brubaker says rate increases in Coffeyville are well below the statewide average.
Executive Director of Electric Services Chris Weiner was at the meeting and told commissioners that the wholesale rate from G-R-D-A went up by 4% last October with similar increases planned for this year and for 2026. He also stated that, even if the commission took no action, rates would still increase by 10% this year. After a lengthy discussion with Commissioners Don Edwards and Alec Hendryx taking opposite stances
, Mayor Debra Maples makes the motion.
In other business, commissioners voted to appoint CCC Criminal Justice and Political Science Instructor Nicole Nee to the Library Board.
