A recent string of burglaries in Parsons over the past week prompts Parsons Police to issue a public safety reminder.
The thefts have targeted residences and businesses as well as a storage unit and several vehicles. Deputy Police Chief Dennis Dodd reminds the public that criminals often look for easy targets and suggests that all residents take some simple precautions to help keep from becoming a crime victim.
Deputy Chief Dodd advises that all citizens lock all doors and windows and secure sheds, garages and storage units with sturdy locks. Those locations should also be checked regularly to be certain they are secure. Motion lights and security cameras can also deter criminals and provide evidence should a crime occur. Don't leave valuables in plain sight and record serial numbers and take photos of high-value items.
Citizens are also asked to report suspicious activity to the police. Anyone with information about the current crime wave in Parsons should contact police by calling 620-421-7060 or calling the tip line at 620-421-7057.
Officers will also be available to give tips on securing your residence.
