Weekend Storms Cause Flooding in Four-State Area

 

Weekend showers bring more than four inches of rain to the Coffeyville area.

 

Multiple rounds of showers over the weekend caused some water accumulation in some of the usual places around town. Around the region, southwest Missouri was hit hard with several ongoing flood warnings and advisories.

 

In southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma, the Neosho River is expected to crest later today into the “moderate” flood stage at just over 21 feet in Oswego, around 23 feet in Parsons and around 20 feet in Commerce.

 

The Spring River at Baxter Springs is also cresting in the “minor” flood stage around 15 feet.

 

If you encounter flooded roadways while driving today, remember to turn around and find a different route. Just a small amount of water on a roadway can sweep a car away or a person off their feet.  More rain is expected this week.
