Independence Marks "Two Lights for Tomorrow Day"

Today is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride and the City of Independence is celebrating the occasion by marking Two Lights for Tomorrow Day today.

Revere's ride signaled the start of the American Revolution and led to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. At the most recent meeting of the Independence City commission, representatives from the Independence Historical Museum and Art Center asked for an official proclamation from the city.

Independence Mayor Scott Smith made the official proclamation, making today Two Lights for Tomorrow Day in Independence. The City encourages businesses and residents to take part in this symbolic display by prominently displaying two lights for all to see tonight and to unite in remembrance of our shared history, honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for our independence and reminding ourselves of the values we hold dear today. It is also an opportunity to reflect on how those lights shining out in the darkness during this vigil symbolically illustrate our ongoing journey as a nation.
