Montgomery County Revisits Low Water Crossing North of Cherryvale

The Montgomery County Commission looks to make a decision regarding a low-water crossing on County Road 6200, just north of Cherryvale.

The County opted to close the crossing to traffic a year ago because it was determined to be structurally unsound. Residents in the area showed up in force at several county meetings to voice their disapproval of that decision. At this week's county commission meeting, Public Works Director Brandon Beurskins told commissioners that an engineering firm was finally able to investigate the extent of the disrepair of the bridge. Beurskins says the engineers were firm in their assessment.

A recent traffic study done on the bridge showed that the area sees about 30 cars per day. Commissioner Robert Bever says he understands resident concerns but that it's difficult to reconcile the costs and benefits.

The County Commission opted to table the issue until the April 21st meeting in order to gather more information.
