Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation announces a new nursing scholarship.
Each year the CRMC Foundation awards multiple scholarships to students who are pursuing degrees in the medical profession. This year’s application will include a new endowed scholarship by Barry and Carol Phillips. Barry was born and raised in Coffeyville and started his nursing career at CRMC in 1977. Carol graduated from nursing school in Tulsa in the early '80s. She began her career in coronary care and then became an ER nurse. Barry and Carol met while working in an emergency room in Fort Myers, Florida. They were married in 1988. In 1998, the Phillips moved back to Coffeyville. Carol worked in the CRMC emergency room and helped Barry establish his private practice. CRMC purchased Barry’s practice in 2011. Barry continued to work at CRMC until 2020 when he retired.
To apply for the $2,000 annual scholarship, applicants are asked to submit a 500 word reflective essay on why they chose to pursue a career in nursing. They must also submit school transcripts that reflect past grades and have letters of recommendation sent on their behalf. Multiple winners may be awarded. Applicants who have been awarded previously are encouraged to apply each year they are enrolled and will be considered for awards over multiple years.
Students who are interested in applying for a scholarship through the CRMC Foundation may download an application on the hospital’s website at www.crmcinc.org/foundation/campaigns-scholarships/ or contact Amy Taylor, Director of Foundation and Guest Relations, foundation@crmcinc.org or 620- 252-1659.
