USD 447 Approves Construction of New High School Track

The USD 447 Cherryvale-Thayer School Board approves a proposal for the replacement of the track at Logan Park for Cherryvale Jr/Sr High School.

At last night's meeting, board members heard bid proposals from three area construction companies. Superintendent Travis Githens says the overall low bid came in at just over $900,000.

Other bids from Mid America Construction of Summit, MO, and Track Renovations of Pittsburg were both several hundred thousand dollars more than the Mammoth bid. The main choice for board members was the decision to approve the proposal for an asphalt track or for the more expensive concrete version. Board members Gina Booe and Kevin Crane agree on their assessment of the two options.

Board members voted to approve the bid from Mammoth Construction of Meridian, KS, to install a concrete-based track at a cost of just under $1.3 million. The measure will be funded without a bond issue over the course of the next three years. Construction on the new track is expected to begin this summer.
