An Independence man is charged with aggravated assault and damage to property in connection to a February 2024 incident in which he is accused of driving a vehicle into the Independence Fire Department building.
57-year-old David Eytcheson Jr. is accused of driving his vehicle at high speeds through the parking lot of the former Mercy Hospital on Laurel Street on the morning of Sunday, February 25, 2024. At that time, Independence Fire/EMS staff who were on duty at the time, reported a full-sized pickup truck crashing into the fire station located behind the former hospital building.
Eytcheson was injured in the crash and was taken via Life Flight to a Wichita hospital. No firefighters were injured in the incident.
Eytcheson has been charged with eight counts of aggravated assault based on the number of firefighters who were in the building at the time of the accident.
