The Kansas highway Patrol has released the identities of 8 people killed in a mutli-car pile up on I-70 on March 14 in western Kansas that left 8 people dead.
The accident or series of accidents began around 3:15 on the afternoon of March 14 on I-70 east Goodland, near the town of Edson. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident was likely caused by low visibility from a dust storm caused by high winds.
Those who lost their lives in the accident include 72-year-old Larry Smith of Sharon Springs; 20-year-old Dawson Hogan of Salina; 24-year-old Baiel Sharshembiev of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 48-year-old Carlos Arzate of Shattuck, Oklahoma; 57-year-old Manuel Alarcon of Dodge City; 61-year-old Stephanie Purcell of Evansville, Indiana; 31-year-old Mario Juarez of Garden City; and 60-year-old Giovanni Stefan of Troy, Michigan.
In addition to those killed in the accident, another 46 people were transported to area hospitals with various injuries.
The K-H-P has not identified those who suffered non-fatal injuries.
