A suspect in a weekend shoplifting theft in Wichita is in critical condition after being struck by a car while attempting to flee from police.

Wichita Police say officers were called to the scene of the West Kellogg location of Walmart on Friday afternoon. Officers made contact with the male suspect, who then fled on foot and attempted to cross Kellogg or US-400. As he crossed the busy highway, he was struck by a vehicle. The man was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. No update has been given on his condition.
