Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation Following Nevada Fire

Two people are treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire in rural southwest Missouri.

The fire occurred just after 2am on Friday morning when Nevada and Compton Junction Firefighters were called to a residence in rural Vernon County. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene first and ha managed to bring the fire under control by the time fire crews arrived. Firefighters then made sure the blaze was completely extinguished. Two occupants of the home were treated on the scene and evaluated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was determined to be discarded smoking materials in a container that had either melted or caught fire. There were also no functioning smoke detectors in the home.
