It was horse trailers as far as the eye could see as high schoolers and their families gathered in Coffeyville for a rodeo this past weekend.

 

Coffeyville hosted The Kansas High School Rodeo Association's event, and organizer Luke Carr says this is the 6^th year for the event in town.

 

Contestants from multiple states attended the event, including Manhattan Resident Cole Castor, who competed in saddle bronc and says he was introduced to the event on social media.

 

Visit Coffeyville helped sponsor the event with a $2,000 tourism grant.

 

Some locals placing on Saturday include Olivia Hartland of Buffalo placing 7^th in barrel racing and 5^th in goat tying, Sage McLain of Welch placing 5^th in breakaway roping, Taggart Bond of Edna placing 3^rd in calf roping, saddle bronc and steer wrestling and 7^th in team roping and Wyatt Martin of Dexter placing 2^nd in saddle bronc.

 

On Sunday, Makenna Goemmer of Nowata placed 2^nd in barrel racing, Olivia Hartland placed 3^rd and Paisley Nolte of South Coffeyville placed 10^th. Hartland also placed 4^th in goat tying and 2^nd in pole bending. Wyatt Martin took 2^nd in saddle bronc, and Taggart Bond took 3^rd in steer wresting once again. Finally, Dexton Hoelting of Olpe took 9^th in team roping.
