Governor Laura Kelly announces $8.1 million in federal funds through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s High Risk Rural Roads Program for eleven rural roadway projects across the state.
Locally, $1.7 million dollars will be used, with a Montgomery County $480,000 county match, to add shoulders and widen culverts on Peter Pan Road from County Road 4600 to County Road 4800.
Also, $250,000 will be used, along with a $70,000 Labette County match, to install pavement markings and rumble strips and upgrade signage on 24000 Road west of Parsons.
Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed says over 20% of fatal and serious injury crashes happen on county roads. He adds that strong partnerships between KDOT and local governments are necessary to achieve the goal of zero roadway fatalities.
