Chanute Man Arrested After Multi-County Police Chase

A report of a stolen vehicle leads to a multi-county vehicle chase.

The chase began when deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office were notified of a reported stolen vehicle from Chanute entering Cherokee County on Highway 400 from Missouri.

After attempting to stop the vehicle, it fled from Cherokee County deputies, and the pursuit started.

Cherokee County officers followed the vehicle through Baxter Springs as the pursuit continued west on Highway 166 and eventually into Labette County. Chetopa Police deployed tire deflation devices, which deflated the passenger-side tire. As the vehicle continued west through Chetopa, Labette County deputies also deployed tire deflation devices, which deflated the driver's side front tire. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Highway 59, and the driver was arrested.

Formal charges are awaiting the 33-year-old Chanute man. He is being held in the Cherokee County Jail.
