A 31-year-old Sabetha man has passed away after a pickup sideswiped his vehicle on a highway in northeast Kansas yesterday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 6 a.m. on U.S. 36 a quarter-mile east of Hiawatha in Brown County, when a westbound Chevy Silverado went left of center and sideswiped an eastbound Nissan Altima.
The Altima, driven by DeAndre Harris, then left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch, while the Silverado, driven by a 98-year-old man from Highland man, went into a ditch and struck a KDOT fence.
Harris was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the 98-year-old Highland man was taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment of potentially serious injuries.
Harris was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
