KBI Identifies Human Remains Found Near Garnett as Teen Missing Since 1972

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has identified human remains found near Garnett, Kansas, in 1973 as those of a missing teen.

In April 1973, the remains of an unidentified male were found in rural Anderson County, just southeast of Garnett. An autopsy later revealed the young man's cause of death as homicide due to signs of trauma. However, law enforcement remained unable to identify the victim.

In 2024, a DNA profile was sequenced for the unidentified man. Using a process called forensic genetic genealogy testing, possible living relatives to the victim were discovered. Investigators were eventually able to determine the victim's identity as that of Jimmy Allen Dollison.

Dollison disappeared in the fall of 1972 when he was just 16 years old. His family never learned what had happened to Dollison until earlier this year.

The K-B-I and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate the circumstances regarding Dollison's death. Anyone with information about Dollison's disappearance or murder is asked to contact the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
