A great opportunity to kick off spring is coming up this weekend in Independence.

 

Park Opening is this Saturday at Riverside Park and Zoo. Independence Chamber of Commerce Director Lisa Wilson says almost everything is free.

 

The day will get started with a mini golf tournament organized by the First Leadership Class as their class project from 9-11 a.m. Wilson says the event will help out students in need at the high school.

 

Items needed include t-shirts, sweats and socks, and can be dropped off even if you're not participating in the event.  At 10 a.m., Wilson says new signs will be unveiled in the park.

 

At 11 a.m., park opening kicks off, and all the favorite rides and attractions will be open. Wilson says a petting zoo will also be available.
