Cherryvale Approves Capital Improvement Plan

The City of Cherryvale has approved a long-term plan for city infrastructure and capital needs over the next five years.

The goals of the capital improvement plan include ensuring adequate funding for infrastructure maintenance, continued investment in water and sewer networks, expanding housing to accommodate growth, enhancing sidewalk and trail programs as well as a bicycle and pedestrian master plan.

City Administrator Michael Hall says most of the ideas in the plan come from city staff.

Some planned projects include a fleet fuel tank installation, floor rehabilitation at the community center and infrastructure improvements at the city industrial park. Other goals include building recreational campsites at Lake Tanko, funding a city-owned dog shelter and the creation of a firearms range for Police Department and citizen use.

City Administrator Michael Hall will join the KGGF morning show on Thursday at 8:10 to discuss more details of the plan.

In other business, the council approved vacating an alley, continued the condemnation process for three structures, approved a contractor agreement for building inspector services, opened bids for haying of city properties and approved paperwork for a gas line construction project for the industrial park “Project Delta” area. After an executive session, the council approved increasing the city administrator's salary to $81,000 for two years without the option for city health insurance.
