A Tulsa man is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a priest in northeastern Kansas.
Gary L. Hermesch has been officially charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 57-year-old Father Arul Carasala in Nemaha County last week. Hermesch has been given a $1 million bond. On Thursday afternoon, authorities in the City of Seneca responded to reports of shots fired at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. There, they found Carasala suffering from a gunshot wound. The priest was taken to a nearby hospital,l where he later died from his injuries.
Police arrested Hermesch a short time later. No motive has been revealed for the shooting.
