An officer-involved shooting of a man in Wagoner County is now being investigated by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Law enforcement agencies from the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office and the Muskogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police responded to a residence in a rural area just south of Porter yesterday evening around 5:30. Officers received a call of a man having a mental health crisis who had allegedly pointed a rifle at his father. When the man's father responded by producing his own rifle, the man returned to his trailer home and barricaded himself inside.
Law enforcement attempted to negotiate with the man for several hours, but the suspect refused to respond. At some point during the standoff, officers shot the man. The man was taken to a nearby hospital but information regarding his condition has not been released.
Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliot stated that multiple shots were fired, and the investigation into the incident is still in its preliminary stage, so few details – including the suspect's name – have been released.
Investigators did state that the suspect is a convicted felon who should not have been in possession of a gun.
No one else was hurt in the incident.
