A Chanute woman is dead following a head-on collision in Neosho County.

The accident occurred just after 8am yesterday on US-169 about 7 miles south of Erie. 55-year-old Janee Umbarger was traveling northbound on US-169 when she veered into the oncoming lane and into the path of a 2009 GMC Sierra. The driver of the Sierra – 76-year-old Carroll Clark of Piqua - attempted to avoid the collision by veering left, but the two vehicles struck head-on. Umbarger died from her injuries while Clark was taken to the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute with minor injuries.
