NOAA Weather Radio System Issues

If you live in northeast Oklahoma and your NOAA weather radio did not go off due to recent storms, there may be a reason for that.

According to the National Weather Service Office in Tulsa, the communications problems with the system started yesterday. The issue has been identified as a telephone company problem, and all are working to fix the issue soon.

The National Weather Service reminds everyone that you should have multiple ways to receive warning information during severe weather in cases like this. While NOAA weather radio is a robust system, issues can happen. Other sources include commercial radio and television, internet sources and text services, such as KGGF's Text Alerts program which can keep you updated on severe weather.

All area warnings are relayed on KGGF, as radio and TV stations are legally required to monitor three sources for warning information. As of this morning, the Bartlesville NOAA transmitter is working, which covers the Coffeyville area. You can sign up for text alerts for your county HERE.
