The Independence BBQ Cook-Off that was scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.

Organizer Brett Trotter says, unfortunately, due to the weather forecasted for Friday and Saturday, they are going to have to cancel the Cook-Off for this year. With the rain, wind, and cold temperatures forecasted for Friday, it is not safe for the BBQ teams to setup and cook overnight. Trotter says all of the sponsorship money that was raised will be donated to Alynna and her family, as well as the raffle money for the fishing trip.

For anyone who bought a raffle ticket for the fishing trip a winner will be drawn on Saturday as planned. That winner will be announced on their Facebook page. Trotter says he is thankful for the support from businesses sponsoring this event and anyone planning on coming out and supporting the event on Saturday. They will be looking into hosting the event again in September of 2026.
